The Adoption Lie

It is my opinion that adoption isn't for everyone, and for the sake of placing children, adoption social workers are liars!
Many women yearn to be a mother, but it doesn't happen for many. You see your friends having babies and you wonder, "Why not me?" Maybe you finally accept that you won't have your own, but you still want to be a mom, so  you look to adopt. Doesn't seem so bad, does it? You get the kiddies and you don't even have to go through the labor and the pain.
What you aren't told is that the desire to have your own baby never goes away. The way you look at them as they grow and you can't find any of yourself in them. They don't look like you, although they may act like you, it's just not the same. You yearn for the bond that mothers have with their natural born babies, and it just never comes. Then you start to feel resentment because you can't understand why some women can have babies and you can't. You know you'd be an excellent mother, and you see people who throw their babies in the dumpster or leave them for child protective services to deal with. You know you'd never abandon your own babies and you'd never abuse them. In fact you'd give your right arm to make sure they are protected and have everything they need, and you do with the ones you adopted, but you still wish you could have had your own.
Adoption is hard, it is emotionally draining, and it is a thankless job, not much different from when you have your own, so if it's something you are considering, think hard about it, because you'll still want to have your own, and there will be days that you are filled with resentment and regret, even anger. Just pray and have faith that it will get better, and your blessing awaits.
